Get connected
It takes time to download and install OS X, so make sure that you have a reliable Internet connection. If you're using a Mac notebook computer, plug it into AC power.
Download OS X Yosemite
For the strongest security and latest features, find out whether you can upgrade to macOS Catalina, the latest version of macOS.
If you still need OS X Yosemite, use this link: Download OS X Yosemite. A file named InstallMacOSX.dmg will download to your Mac.
Install the macOS installer
Double-click the downloaded file to open a window showing its contents. Then double-click the file within, named InstallMacOSX.pkg.
Follow the onscreen instructions, which will guide you through the steps necessary to install.
Begin installation
After installation of the installer is complete, open the Applications folder on your Mac, then double-click the file named Install OS X Yosemite.
Click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions. You might find it easiest to begin installation in the evening so that it can complete overnight, if needed.
Allow installation to complete
Please allow installation to complete without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. Your Mac might restart, show a progress bar, or show a blank screen several times as it installs both OS X and related updates to your Mac firmware.

No, there wasn't such a discussion here and I don't know of anyactions towards Yosemite yet. I assume there will be more afterYosemite's release this fall.
@Simone, Partha, Clayton: do you know more?
Checking for chances in Yosemite at https://www.apple.com/osx/preview/I think only the UI changes and some technical changes in the background(API changes) could have impact which are mainly topic for thegtk-mac-integration project.

Hmm, I don't know what exactly you mean. Can you please be a bit more concrete?
If we'll find out more about GIMP's compatibility with Yosemite,we will post it at http://roaringapps.com/app/gimp-28
Kind regards,
Sven

No, don't know anymore. However, looking at the preview (and I'll try andparticipate in the beta and test Gimp 2.9 on it). I am not anticipatingthat it'll be an radical redesign. I'll let you know.

I don't think the gtk-mac-integration project is involved any more fordeveloping gtk-osx apps. At least, I don't use it.

It sounds like you are participating in the Apple Developer program. Do you?

We use it in GIMP 2.8 (see the osx-build branch and the integrated patches from Simone). Simone also forked and updated gtk-mac-integration.It *might* become obsolete with the switch to GTK+ 3, but that's future andmuch can happen until then.
Kind regards,

Hi,
I think the topic has moved too far from the originalquestion and has become more of a development related topic.Let's continue on developer list.

Gimp 2.8 and OS X Yosemite
I installed Yosemite yesterday. I updated Gimp to the latest git build andit works fine with Yosemite.
This is not surprising to me since my builds are backward compatible up toSnow Leopard (10.6.8).
Thanks,Partha

Gimp 2.8 and OS X YosemiteGimp For Mac Yosemite 10
Hi Partha,
thank you for that information. How do you achieve backward compatibility?I've built on 10.9. and had to find out thateven building for 10.8 has become troublesome(mostly due to issues with the JHBuild bootstrapperon OS X, but I think also the older OS X SDKs areinvolved here).
Kind regards
